This is where I put the stuff I write.

The texts cover different subjects, and their only real purpose is to help me get a proper grasp of whatever I am studying, reading or curious about. Hopefully some of it is useful to you as well. Or not.

Do not expect large articles here.

What is Event Forge?

A ticket-selling platform I built in order to have something realistic to break. I don't work anywhere with that kind of traffic, so this is where I get to see for myself how a system behaves under load — contention, races, and the other problems that only show up when a lot of things happen at once.

Tickets turned out to be a good fit: the moment a popular event goes on sale, a lot of people reach for the same few seats at the same instant. The write-ups filed under this category are the experiments I run against it — what I asked, how I measured it, and what the answer turned out to be, including the runs that disproved something.

  • I tried to build a load balancer

How does something like NGINX actually route thousands of requests to different ports? I opened that box by building a small one in Elixir.

This article is part of a series of "experiments" that I run against a lab project, Event Forge — a fake ticket-selling platform I use to study and test concepts.
